placebo /plǝ'si:bǝƱ/ n ( pl -os ) ၁။ ( medical ) ေဆးဝါးအသစ္ စမ္းသပ္ရာတြင္ (သို႔) ေရာဂါအမွန္မရိွဘဲ စိတ္စြဲလမ္းမႈအရ ေရာဂါရိွသည္ ဟုအထင္ရိွေနသူကို ကုသရာတြင္သံုးေသာ တကယ့္ ေဆးႏွင့္ အသြင္တူေသာ္လည္း အာနိသင္မရိွေသာ ေဆး။ the placebo effect (ie the effect of taking a placebo and feeling better). ၂။ ( esp derog ) ေခြၽးသိပ္မႈ။ These measures are simply a placebo and do not deal with the real causes of dissent.
