poise [poiz] (v) to balance: နေသားတကျဟန်ထားသည်။ He poised himself on the diving-board. ဒိုင်ဗင်မထိုးမီ ပျဉ်ချပ်ပေါ်တွင် ကိုယ်ကိုနေသားတကျ ဟန်ထားလိုက်သည်။ — (n) 1. balance and control in bodily movement: ဟန်ချက်မပျက် လှုပ်ရှားနိုင်ခြင်း။ Good poise is important for a dancer. ကချေသည်တစ်ဦးအတွက် ဟန်ချက်မပျက် လှုပ်ရှားနိုင်ရန် အရေးကြီးသည်။ 2. dignity and self-confidence: ဣန္ဒြေ။ He lost his poise for a moment. အခိုက်အတန့်မျှ သူ ဣန္ဒြေပျက်သွားသည်။ poised (adj) 1. staying in a state of balance and stillness: တန့်တည်နေသော။ The car was poised on the edge of the cliff. ကားမှာကျောက်တောင်စွန်း ပေါ်တွင် တင်းခံနေသည်။ 2. having the body in a state of tension and readiness to act: အသင့်အားတင်းထားသော။ The animal was poised ready to leap. ထိုအကောင်က ခုန်ရန်အသင့် တည်ထားသည်။
