၁။ (က) ရေကူးသည်။ I can't swim. ❍ She swims like a fish (ie very well). ❍ Let's go swimming. ❍ swim across the river ❍ swim underwater/ upstream/ ashore. (ခ) (ဖားကူး၊ လိပ်ပြာကူး) ကူးသည်။ swim breast-stroke.
(ဂ) (ရေ)ကူးသည်။ swim two lengths of the pool ❍ swim the Channel.
၂။ (usu in the continuous tenses) (က) ~ (with sth )ပြည့်လျှမ်း သည်။ Her eyes were swimming (with tears). ❍ The bathroom floor was swimming with water. (ခ) ~ in sth ပေါလောပေါ်နေသည်။ meat swimming in gravy.
၃။ (က) ချာလပတ်လည်သည်။ The room swam before his eyes/ around him.
(ခ) ချာချာလည်သည်။ မူးနောက်သည်။ The whisky made his head swim.
n ရေကူးခြင်း။ go for/ have a swim.
❏ in/ out of the swim [IDM ] (infml ) ခေတ်ရေစီးကြောင်းနှင့် လိုက်နိုင်၊ မလိုက်နိုင်။ Although I'm retired, voluntary work keeps me in the swim (of things).
❏ swimmer n ရေကူးသမား။ a strong/ good/ fast swimmer.
